Job Description
The Head of Hosted Technology Services provides leadership and oversight of the Datacenter and Cloud Computing Infrastructure functions at Valley National Bank. They are responsible for the overarching Cloud Platform & Infrastructure engineering strategy, architecture, design, technology selection/evaluation and the deployment of innovative solutions focused on delivering business outcomes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Build best in class technical Platform and Infrastructure solutions on a hybrid Cloud to address requirements for scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
  • Work across geographically dispersed and integrated project teams to develop the strategy, architecture, roadmaps, design, and implementation of Cloud Platform & Infrastructure solutions.
  • Provide leadership, vision, and oversight across the engineering pillars to provide holistic end to end solutions.
  • Create a collaborative culture through robust communication, governance, and partnership with internal and external entities.
  • Design and implement an enterprise management program focused on a best-in-class solutions across the technology platforms for impact analysis, design, and resiliency reviews.
    • Design and Implement Hybrid Cloud architecture.
    • Develop and manage Cloud Center of Excellence.
      • Defined architecture patterns for Private and Public cloud.
        1. Preference for Cloud Native and Serverless architecture
        2. Container based architectures.
        3. Hybrid environment to include general compute, network, and storage.
        4. Highly available designs to support platforms with varying business RTO/RPO requirements.
        5. Multi-service, inter-network, hybrid connectivity optimized for multiple LOB applications and data integration.
      • Deploy Infrastructure as Code automation capabilities (Terraform, ARM, Cloud Formation etc.).
      • Develop DevSecOps practice and onboarding program to accelerate application deployment.
      • Environment strategy - management, deployment, and configuration management.
      • Operational security and excellence programs (i.e.: logging and monitoring strategies)
      • Infrastructure training - Cloud training program, best practices, Infrastructure as Code, etc.
    • Lead and coordinate the work of an integrated project teams comprised of developers, subject matter experts, database administrators, system administrators, and system architects for program to implement and maintain enterprise-level information technology applications.
    • Accountable for the development, monitoring, and compliance to the relevant budget.
  • Drive optimal forecasting, capacity planning across the services areas for high availability, lifecycle management and disaster recovery planning (DRP)
  • Responsible for the quality and performance of the services provided from managed service providers.
    • Provides direction to the team to ensure the managed service partners have the necessary process, tools, and support to be successful.
    • Works with the operations teams, Managed Service Partners, and Vendor Management, as appropriate, to ensure the equipment and services adhere to our over-arching strategy, standards, and policies.
    • Partner with the Vendor Performance Management to provide input on ensuring that the relevant managed service provider(s) adheres to contractual and commercial obligations (e.g., ARCs, RRCs, SLA credits, etc.)
  • Document and communicate roadmaps, standards and business continuity planning as well as serve as the focal point for all technology and related matters.
  • Manage the budget responsibly for in-scope related services, as well as prioritization and recommendations of capital investments and adoption.
  • Ensure high quality and performance of the services provided from SaaS providers.
  • Sponsor engineering topics, related projects, and continuous transformation efforts.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of current trends and developments IT Infrastructure synergies across the technology pillars.

Required Skills:
  • Ability to thrive in demanding industries, driven by technology and innovation with constraints imposed by various regulatory bodies and security.
  • Deep expertise in evolving cloud solutions, security, methodologies, design patterns and best practices.
  • Extensive experience with Azure platform. Practical knowledge of other cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP and familiarity with trends in Cloud methodologies.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure solutions (storage, server, network, etc.) in support of hybrid environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to select, develop, train, lead and inspire teams. Create a culture of continuous learning.
  • Strong business acumen, process management and vendor management experience and skills.
  • Proven track record of leading complex project and operational teams.
  • Proven track records in successfully developing and managing business disaster recovery and continuity planning.
  • Ability to generate trust, build alliances across the organization, and orchestrate interdisciplinary teams to the benefit of customers.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic operational delivery.
  • Empathy, curiosity, desire to constantly improve, acquire new skills and drive for results.
  • Hands-on experience with core LAN/WAN network technologies.
  • Cloud networking including Express Route, MPLS gateway, IPsec, Microsoft Peering, Private Peering.
  • Technical Skills Required: Azure IaaS, PaaS, Containers (Kubernetes. Docker etc.).
  • Understanding of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL.
  • A background in Consulting in the Financial space is preferred, but not required.
  • Deployment and configuration baseline automation, including popular toolsets (Chef) and technologies (PowerShell, Runbooks).
  • Azure AD including PIM.
  • Cloud/Azure Cost Management and tagging.
  • Experience with route tables, access control lists, firewalls, NAT, DNS, IP and OSI Network.
  • Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud experience.
  • DevOps including Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, ARM, Azure DevOps, PowerShell.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a min of 10 years of equivalent experience in applied technical support of complex multi-vendor environments.
  • Experience and expertise in technology management in large global organizations in support of leading large multi-pillar global engineering groups.
