Covia is looking for a dynamic Production Supervisor - night shift who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Tunnel City, WI location. The Production Supervisor will directly supervise the production and shipping operations to ensure that output is maximized at the lowest cost while maintaining safety and quality requirements.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Understands requirements of own job and those of reports to effectively accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner.
  • Inspire high levels of performance from peers and reports through sound leadership.
  • Utilize resources effectively to maximize production, lower costs, and eliminate waste.
  • Establishes, promotes and enforces high standards for housekeeping.
  • Ensures that company assets are used as according to their designed function for maximum utilization.
  • Plan production in a manner such that a sufficient quantity of in-specification product is available for packaging and loading to meet customer order requirements.
  • Present data as needed to support ideas and recommendations in written and verbal form.
  • Plans activities to achieve personal, plant and corporate goals.
  • Complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Hands-on supervision and scheduling of all hourly production employees to meet the demands of the plant, including timecard preparations and vacation scheduling.
  • Identify and provide training for subordinates.
  • Utilizes Continuous Improvement Process to identify problems, solutions and opportunities for lasting improvement.
  • Promote positive employee relations, resolve conflicts, and encourage a free flow of ideas by the use of good interpersonal skills.
  • Understands and utilizes the team concept by active participation, shared leadership, two way communication, consensus building, maintaining focus, and application of Continuous Improvement Process in the team work environment.
  • Inspires initiative in others by role modeling, acts as a self-starter and exhibits a high degree of motivation.
  • Report to management: immediately, any major problem or incident occurring during a shift.
  • Set high standards for workplace safety awareness. Understand and enforce MSHA Regulations and Covia's Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures ensuring employees are properly trained and equipped to perform jobs in the safest manner. Hold regularly scheduled safety meetings with reports.
  • Responsible for compliance with plant environmental permitting requirements.
  • Responsible for documentation regarding, quality, consumables, safety, production, loading, shipping and reports.
  • Responsible for quality throughout the entire production, packaging, loading, and shipping process, measurable by zero customer complaints.
  • Advise the Operations Manager of potential problems that might affect plant capacity to produce in a safe and/or efficient manner.
  • Initiate maintenance requests, recommend equipment and/or process changes as needed to maximize throughput.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and/or outside contractors as required.
  • Responsible for directing the workforce to achieve a safe and healthy work environment for all employees thought effective housekeeping/elimination of spillage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of related experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, SharePoint
