Job Summary
The Insurance Manager will assist the Executive Director in the development, organization, and implementation of the departments' operations, including responsibility for fiscal management, staffing, personnel development, quality improvement, customer service, and department planning. The Insurance Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the department and staff to assure a high level of productivity and customer service, promoting teamwork and providing a supportive environment.

What you will do
  • Assists Executive Director in the overall efficiency, functionality, strategic planning, development, and process improvement within the department. Manage and maintain operations, labor, and capital budgets. Communicates with the Executive Director on a regular basis and submits appropriate minutes and reports as requested. Serves as a resource for the Executive Director.
  • Manages department staff and supervisors. Provides for appropriate operational staffing of department. Hires, supervises, and provides for the training and staff orientation. Evaluates performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions. Assures for appropriate department resources and staffing. Approves and edits assigned staff timecards. Responsible for evaluating and approving vacation requests made by assigned staff. Recruits staff in a timely manner to fill open positions and consults with HR to determine the appropriate wage. Responds to performance issues in a timely manner. Completes performance evaluations in a thorough and timely manner. Identifies educational needs of staff and coordinates the process for staff to attend educational opportunities. Implements individual and group training programs to develop staff competencies.
  • Solicits suggestions for problem solving and process improvement from the staff. Analyzes and recommends changes in department processes, systems, and procedures to increase efficiencies. Implements solutions to improve department function. Communicates new information to staff in a timely manner.
  • Works with the Dept Supervisors to review patient satisfaction data and assist in identifying opportunities for change and improvement. Reviews patient satisfaction data with APPs and/or staff and assists in identifying opportunities for change and improvement. Manages patient complaints.
  • Analyzes and interprets financial data and initiates suggestions to improve department productivity. Recommends and oversees capital purchases and department supplies. Collaborates with the Executive Director and dept leadership team to develop an annual department budget. Works with department leadership time to develop action plan for variances. Monitors staffing schedules to minimize variances to the budget, monthly.
  • Maintain and recommend improvements in billing office procedures. Gathers, analyzes, and reports billing information as requested by Executive Director. Maintain and recommend policies for the efficiency of the area being supervised. Examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as assigned by Executive Director.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and/or GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree In associated field. Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • 3-5 years Five years of experience with accounting, physician billing and coding reimbursement. Required
  • 3-5 years Additional appropriate education may be substituted for five years of billing experience. Required
  • Prior leadership experience in a large staffed department. Required
  • Prior supervisory experience. Required

  • Knowledge of billing policies and insurance policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of third party payer operations.
  • Knowledge of Clinic operating policies.
  • Knowledge of payer contracts. Knowledge of ICD-9/CPT Codes.
  • Knowledge of current legislative changes and government regulations related to the job.
  • Skilled to be a role model for staff through professional conduct, adhering to the dress code, providing appropriate communication and excellent customer service skills, and supporting management decisions.
