Description

GENERAL FUNCITONS:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality 4K, preschool and extended care (before and after school care) programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manages, directs, and coordinates the early learning programming during the school year and summer months. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate and achieve goals. Meet requirements for continuing education and in-service stipulated by state licensing. Maintain updated entries to the Registry of Wisconsin.
  3. Develops, manages, and controls budgets ensuring program operates fiscally and within budget.
  4. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.
  5. Ensures standards and provides upkeep of assigned program areas and equipment.
  6. Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  7. Provides staff leadership for annual fund-raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  8. Maintains proper records for staff and children as required by childcare licensing.
  9. Organizes special events for as directed by Branch Executive.
  10. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  11. Compiles program statistics for monitoring and evaluating program enrollment and quality. Evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood education or Child Care from an institution of higher education; Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education or Child Development is preferred.
  3. Must have the ability to obtain DPI substitute permit within 90 days of employment.
  4. One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of early learning programs.
  5. Requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  6. Completed, enrolled in or willing to enroll in childcare courses to meet the State of Wisconsin Licensing Regulations.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.

  9. Must have a current driver's license and be able to travel to multiple work sites during a workday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
