Job Description

The Laboratory Information Systems / Point of Care (LIS/POC) Coordinator is responsible for support of the Hospital Laboratories’ various information systems and Point of Care testing platforms.

On the LIS side, this includes the electronic health record (Epic), interfaced lab systems (clinical pathology, anatomic pathology, transfusion services- SoftBank), middleware (DI, Telcor). Support activities include validating and implementing system upgrades, maintaining existing systems and instrument interfaces, end user support and training, building and maintaining test codes, result files, billing and tables. In addition, this position serves as liaison with the information systems’ vendors and department Leadership, reporting, documenting and resolving issues. Collaborates with Laboratory leadership to submit and complete projects including new analyzers, workflow changes and other tasks involving the laboratory information systems.

On the POC side, the LIS/POC Coordinator will have oversight and responsibility for Point of Care testing in the organization. This support may cross multiple laboratory and clinic locations. The LIS/POC Coordinator provides technical resource and daily direction

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent is required.
  • Professional certification by ASCP or equivalent are required within 1 year of hire.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (or equivalent) in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Must meet CLIA personnel requirements.
  • LIS or Information Technology experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Effective time management to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and critical -thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software including email, electronic calendar, word processing, database and spreadsheet packages (Microsoft Office Suite preferred)
  • Demonstrated skill with various laboratory information systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of quality control, quality assurance principles, and proficiency testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulatory standards and laboratory practices and processes.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Registered as an MLS/ MT / CLS under ASCP or AMT. Maintains certification through continuing education and certification renewal.
