HOURLY RATE: $9.00 PLUS GRATUITY
Want to work outdoors this summer? We have a fantastic opportunity for you! We are looking for Bartenders to serve at our Crow's Nest Rooftop Bar! Perfect summer hours to serve others and to enjoy the sun and outdoor environment. We are looking for Bartenders who can work 20-24 hours hours per week.
About the Stella Hotel & Ballroom: Within blocks of Lake Michigan, The Stella features 80 stunning guest rooms featuring state of the art amenities combining sophistication and contemporary design elements. Housed within the hotel, the 1844 Table & Mash restaurant/bar pays homage to supper clubs of the past, but with a fresh and modern twist. The 1844 also offers a diverse selection of whiskeys, signature handcrafted cocktails and a showcase of craft and domestic beers. The hotel also features a seasonal rooftop bar called The Crow's Nest. The Stella Hotel and Ballroom has 7000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, including a grand two-story ballroom.
As a Crows Nest Bartender on our team, you will complete a variety of tasks which will include:

  • Interact with customers; take orders for drinks and snacks.
  • Plan and present bar menu.
  • Serve snacks and drinks to the customer.
  • Check identification of the guest to make sure they meet age requirements for purchase of alcohol.
  • Mix drinks, cocktails and other bar beverages as ordered and in compliance with hotel standard drink recipes.
  • Prepare alcohol or non-alcohol beverages.
  • Service Wine and Beer to guests.
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
  • Assess customers' needs and preferences and make recommendations.
  • Ability to sell or influence others for up selling and suggestive selling.
  • Provide recommendations and suggestions to guest for choosing drinks and snacks.
  • Serve customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Keep the bar counter and work area neat and clean at all times.
  • Provide guidance to guests on hotel activities, dining options and general regional information.
  • Determine when a customer has had too much alcohol and if required refuse further service politely.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, menus and promotions.
  • Handle and move objects, such as glasses and bottles, using hands and arms.
  • Clean up after customers and clean work area.
  • Wash glassware and utensils after each use.
  • Maintain a clean working area by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning of glass doors and windows, etc., if required.
  • Perform physical activities such as lifting and stooping.
  • Maintain liquor inventory.
  • Collect payment for drinks served and balance all receipts.
  • Handle an assigned house bank and follow all cash handling procedures as per hotel standard.
  • Prepare inventory or purchase requisitions as needed to replenish supplies.
  • Ensure that the assigned bar area is fully equipped with tools and products needed for mixing beverages and serving guests.
  • Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience.
  • Comply with all food and beverage regulations.

This position is ideal for someone with the following experience and qualities:
  • One to two years of experience bartending.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English, and other languages are advantages.
  • Good personality and positive interpersonal skills required.
  • Food Handlers Card.
