What you will work:
  • .8 FTE = 64 hours every 2 weeks
  • Monday - Friday between the hours of 5:00am - 1:30pm
  • Weekend rotation and a holiday rotation
  • Will primarily work at the Legacy Desk (Hospital), Discharge desk and Family Surgery Room.

Job Description:

The Patient Attendant provides a warm and responsive greeting, and is knowledgeable in wayfinding, information, transporting, escorting patients and providing other personal assistance as needed throughout the hospital and clinic.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates exceptional customer service and effective communication in greeting, directing, escorting and assisting patients, family members, and visitors.
2. Adheres to Gundersen Health System mission statement, policies, and confidentiality standards. Role models customer service standards.
3. Follows procedures to request help for patients and visitors in need of urgent assistance.
4. Responds to customer complaints/concerns/compliments using appropriate resources.
5. Facilitates check-in and check-out of people which may include visitors, patients, customers, company representatives or visiting clergy.
6. Physically assists patients in obtaining and using wheelchairs and escorts patients to departments while using proper body mechanics.
7. Maintains wheelchairs to ensure cleanliness, availability and safety for our patients' use, and notifies housekeeping of wheelchairs that need repair or service.
8. Maintains a debris and clutter free entrance by alerting Environmental Services if entrances/restrooms need additional attention.
9. Demonstrates competency in a variety of clerical duties including computer skills, phone skills, and paging skills as necessary, adhering to the overhead paging guidelines.
10. Assists with data entry tracking of numbers, logging results and reports as needed.
11. Monitors parking and traffic at entrances and notifies security as needed.
12. Assists with amenities as needed.
13. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

High School Diploma or equivalency

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

1 year in a role that works with the public

DESIRED

1 year working in customer service and/or 1 year working in healthcare setting

License and Certifications:

DESIRED

  • American Association of Medical Assistants as a Certified Medical Assistant or

  • National Healthcareer Association as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or

  • National Center for Competency Testing as a National Certified Medical Assistant; or

  • American Medical Technologists as a Registered Medical Assistant or

  • National Association for Health Professionals as a Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant or

  • Wisconsin Registered Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
