Job Summary:

The Influenza Research Institute (IRI) is an active and growing influenza laboratory supporting cutting-edge research employing about 30 scientists, post-docs and technicians located on the west side of Madison in the University Research Park. The work is conducted under highly technical conditions and the Operations Team is looking for a Facilities Technician III to support the Institute. The position will support laboratory operations, building maintenance, equipment procurement and inventory, plus supporting BSL3 activities including equipment oversight. Some of these activities may require work in BSL3 laboratories at the IRI. The individual in this position must have their own transportation and valid driver's license, be able to lift 50 pounds, be willing to be after hours on-call and have good communication skills with a willingness to support a research team environment. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.
  • 20% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 20% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 15% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • 20% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 15% After hours on-call rotation

Qualifications:

Mechanically-inclined individual with basic understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other building mechanical issues. The individual needs to work well with others and have the desire to learn and be taught new skills and trades.

Work Schedule:

General hours will be between 8 AM - 4:30 PM

After-hours/weekend on-call hours may be required.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
