Overview

We are recruiting for a Process Engineer to join the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) group at FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc. (FCDI). The group works to develop, improve and support manufacturing processes for both the Therapeutics and Discovery Research manufacturing teams. Products manufactured by these teams include cell therapy and research material for ocular, cardiac, neurological diseases and immune oncology therapies. FCDI is a leading developer and manufacturer of human cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). They are used in drug discovery, toxicity testing, stem cell banking, and cell therapy development. The Company partners with innovators from around the world to combine biologically relevant human cells with the newest technologies to drive advancements in medicine and healthier living.

This position requires self-motivated and intellectually curious individuals with experience in cell biology and molecular biology, who can contribute to our ongoing process development and manufacturing support efforts. Essential Job Duties

    Conceives, plans, and executes projects related to the strategic needs of the company
  • Designs and supervises experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes
  • Works within and occasionally leads subgroups of Technology Transfer project teams to establish and transfer robust bioprocesses to Discovery Research and Therapeutics manufacturing groups
  • Supports and occasionally leads:
  • the training of manufacturing staff on processes and equipment
  • the development, execution, and reporting of process optimization and characterization studies.
  • the development and documenting of new methods or equipment for cell processing unit operations including bioreactor-based cell culture, media manufacturing, cell washing and concentration.
  • Prepares experimental protocols, technical reports, and SOP's, and develops appropriate documentation, including batch records, for the Technology Transfer of processes to DR and TX manufacturing.
  • Effectively communicates information about the projects and experimental results within the project team, to other FCDI groups and occasionally to external customers and clients.
  • Contributes to the strategic directions for new equipment, materials and general tech transfer projects through knowledge of technology and its creative applications and then drives activities for the implementation of new equipment, materials, and processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • PhD degree in chemical or bio-engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, immunology or a closely related scientific field with some relevant experience in cell culturing and bioprocessing, or a Master's degree plus at last two years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated capability with cell culture, flow cytometry, and/or molecular biology methods. Stem cell culture experience and/or flow cytometry experience is extremely desirable.
  • Self-motivated with a sound work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to acquire new technical skills.
  • Project management skills including the flexibility to change project objectives quickly and enthusiastically.
  • Proficient in written and oral communication, as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work some evening and/or weekend work is required.
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment and human tissue) and laboratory equipment without endangering oneself or others.
  • Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
