Administers all Children's Hospital and Health System activities relative to public safety programs and activities.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree required with in depth knowledge of legal aspects of security operations (liability law).
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) preferred.
  • Requires five or more years of management experience in a safety or security leadership role, to include indepth technical and state of the art knowledge of the various disciplines encountered with a safety and security program in its daily operation (e.g. alarm systems, guard operation, closed circuit television, radio communications). Knowledge of architectural drawings and the ability to relate to the construction field.
  • Requires a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and the ability to be insured by the CHHS auto insurance carrier.
  • Strong customer service orientation (versus enforcement orientation) to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Analytical ability necessary to resolve complex security problems and implement appropriate systems and processes.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to lead the Public Safety team and to implement and manage security programs in conjunction with other departments, health system entities or outside agencies.
  • Physical requirements of the job are consistent with the medium physical demand level. Requires combined walking and standing for up to 100% of the work shift, and occasional running for distances of approximately mile, both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to climb several flights of stairs and carry equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, etc.). Must be able capable of lower level work (e.g. kneeling, squatting) for brief periods, and be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally from floor level. Must be able to assist individuals (e.g. transport a guest in a wheelchair). Must be able to physically restrain patients/disruptive individuals of varying stature. Requires ability to assess safety situations (e.g. identify smell, color, near and far acuity, temperature, etc.).
