Job Description
Title: Material Handler/Packer/Tugger
General Summary (Bold italic indicates duties/responsibilities above a 308)
Perform a variety of stock handling and material movement functions, as well as other duties in the shipping and receiving area. Operate required equipment. Receive instructions from the supervisor or lead. Verify and maintain quality of work. Train and assist other 308 Material Handlers/Packers as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Operate a forklift/hand truck/mule/tugger for movement of material where applicable.
  2. Prepare bills of lading and complete other documentation as required. (Bike Optional)
  3. Look up and print customer orders.
  4. Verify material-handling equipment is maintained and recharged for next shift.
  5. Assist in shipping and receiving --
    1. Order picking/filling in stockroom. This may include identifying, labeling, and placing materials in stock or pulling materials for production orders.
    2. Transport orders to cells in a timely manner.
    3. Assist in cycle counting and/or consolidating parts to different areas.
    4. Move items from cells to identified location in shipping/receiving or warehouse.
    5. Prepare material for shipment (shrink wrap, box, stack, etc.).
    6. Operate the scale and other equipment.
    7. Unload and load trucks.
    8. Perform other duties and provide support as directed.
    9. Perform Syteline move transactions ex: RF scan gun.
  6. Verify and maintain the quality of work through visual inspection and work instructions. Notify supervisor or lead of any nonconformity, and document as required.
  7. Perform 6S daily and maintain a safe and clean work area complying with safety and housekeeping procedures.
  8. Follow ISO procedures and participate in continuous improvement.
  9. Consistently demonstrate a professional demeanor, and willing to help and take ownership to solve various shipping/receiving requirements.
  10. Participate in LEAN/Kaizen activity as requested.
  11. Complete JITS, and hour x hour production boards in accordance with standards as needed
Requirements of Knowledge, Skill and Ability
  1. Read, write, comprehend, and follow instructions to perform the duties described above.
  2. Strong arithmetic and attention to detail required for documentation and/or cycle counts.
  3. Able to stand and/or walk 85-100% of the day.
  4. Certified forklift operator (Bike Optional); trained in "big joey" and hand trucks.
  5. Operate packaging equipment.
  6. Good understanding of routings, shipping documents, receiving paperwork, and the document process to ensure accuracy.
  7. Able to lift moderate weights and physically fit to perform the duties described above.
  8. Intermediate computer experience to include E-Commerce websites ERP/DRP systems (i.e., Syteline), FedEx and UPS to ship items.
