JOB TITLE: Lead Teacher In Training or Lead Teacher FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for leading a safe and educational classroom environment by providing daily care, nurturing and development of children.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

Legend: E = Essential / NE = Non Essential / N/A = Not Applicable


BILINGUAL POSITIONS MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL OF THE DUTIES LISTED BELOW IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH:

  1. Develop and/or assist with development of, submit to applicable stakeholders, and implement age appropriate curriculum and lesson plans in accordance with legal, organizational and contractual requirements, laws and policies. E
  2. Ensure safe, appropriate, and clean educational resource materials, equipment, etc. E
  3. Monitor staff to child ratio and inform supervisor of any significant change. E
  4. Monitor and ensure that daily routines are followed and in compliance by staff, volunteers, and others to include, but not limited to: arrival, meals, nap time, toileting needs, music time, group time, outdoor activities, transitions, clean-up, departure, etc. E
  5. Act as a back-up for other teaching related positions as needed and directed. E
  6. Supervise and interact with children while treating all children with dignity and respect and in accordance with legal, organizational, and contractual requirements, laws and policies, etc. E
  7. Ensure a safe environment to prevent accidents, illness, and injury and respond to fire/emergency drills and actual situations. E
  8. Follow legal, organizational and contractual requirements, laws and policies (i.e.; WI Child Care Regulations, NAC standards, etc.). E
  9. Implement and/or practice the duties of a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse under current policies and procedures, as required. E
  10. Prepare, complete, distribute, and/or submit required items by due dates; to include, but not limited to: medicine distribution log, student notes, reports, statistical data, etc. E
  11. Attend all meetings, workshops, and professional development activities, as directed and/or required. E
  12. Establish and maintain good communication, collaboration and cooperation with all stakeholders (i.e., parents, co-workers, etc.). NE
  13. Perform other duties as assigned. NE

Attendance and punctuality are an essential function of the job.

The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, reach, stoop, bend, and walk. Employee is frequently required to see, talk, or hear. Finger dexterity is also required. Frequent lifting, including children, will be encountered (based on age group of children).


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in a child care environments. Local travel may be needed. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.


REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator as designated


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Lead Teacher In-Training

1. Level 12 on WI State Registry

AND

2. Zero (0) to two (2) years paid experience (Minimum of one (1) year paid experience working with families and/or paid classroom experience strongly preferred)


Lead Teacher

1. Levels 12+ on WI State Registry

AND

2. Minimum of two (2) years paid experience working with families and/or paid classroom experience


AND

  1. Must complete 25 hours of in-service training on a yearly basis (calendar year).
  2. 12 credits in ECE for teachers designated in Early Headstart.
  3. Bilingual, Spanish and English, strongly preferred (required for Bilingual positions).
  4. Must be able to lift children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  5. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  6. Excellent critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  7. Highly developed organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse cultural, linguistic and economic background; both in a team and individual environment.
  9. Must successfully complete and pass all background checks (including annual checks) to include, but not limited to: Criminal History, TB Testing, and Physical.
  10. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends depending on needs of the program needs.
