Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS) was founded in Madison, Wisconsin, in 2012. Its creation brought together the dreams of Dr. Julia Bates, Dr. John Silbernagel, Dr. Amy Pauli, and Dr. Katie Diehl-- to operate a high quality, caring small animal practice--  focused on offering around-the-clock emergency and specialist services. The partnership included purchasing, restructuring, and expanding long-time emergency clinic, Exceptional Care for Animals (ECA), located just off the beltline highway, a main thoroughfare in the city.
 

Thirty years prior, ECA was the first veterinary clinic to provide emergency services in the area. It continued to operate in this specific capacity until MVS took charge of the practice. An increase in hours was one of the goals, and the new team immediately began to accommodate the care of patients, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.


The 365-day-a-year schedule now provides the best range of care possible, including board certified specialists who are prepared to help whenever your primary care veterinarian refers your pet-patient to us. Doctors and staff also remain ready for the unexpected, with emergency services available anytime you and your pet are in need. And MVS is continuing the tradition of ECA's service in the community, by partnering with organizations and nonprofits. One example is the Dane County Humane Society, where MVS is one of the few clinics regularly caring for stray animals and wildlife who are sick or injured.


MVS plans to continue its expansion efforts, and along with its important emergency and specialty services, offers advanced diagnostic procedures, surgeries, ophthalmology consults, and caring oversight of their hospitalized patients. It all began with the dream of a few doctors-- to provide the unique health care they believed was lacking on a 24/7 basis-- knowing it would increase support during a stressful time of sickness, but also share in the celebration of a special bond between animals and their humans.
