Agency Profile Bridges of Wisconsin, Inc. began on April 1st,1994 with the purpose of providing an alternative approach to services for persons with developmental disabilities. Frustrated by the dominance of large, multi-level corporations with distant decision-makers in the delivery of services in southeastern Wisconsin, Bridges sought to provide a smaller, locally based forum in which to develop services around the priorities of individuals. Rather than to “retrofit” individuals into existing “program designs”, we seek to provide the knowledge, resources and support necessary for every individual to envision and pursue their own living arrangement. Centered in West Bend, Bridges currently provides services to 60 persons in Dodge, Milwaukee, and Washington counties, in numerous unique supportive arrangements. These settings provide integrated and enhanced lifestyles for persons with extensive physical and/or cognitive disabilities.

Since its inception, helping to meet the needs and goals of persons with more complex living issues has become the primary focus of Bridges; Bridges direct care employees have become uniquely experienced and qualified in helping individuals to move beyond severe physical, cognitive, and behavioral challenges. Bridges corporate structure is limited and direct. The Agency’s owners have developed the philosophies and direction behind the mission of Bridges, and serve as its Directors. A carefully selected management team supports the efforts of Bridges client contact staff- our direct care providers are the most critical component in the successful delivery of our services. Through the provision of supports in Adult Family Homes or within an individual’s own home/apartment, Bridges seeks to enable individuals with cognitive challenges to regain or augment control over their own lives, and to provide opportunities to enhance their lives. Within the past year, Bridges has expanded its scope of services to include children that have challenges primarily within the autism spectrum.

We have pursued this new area of supports with the same diligence and success as with our past services.
