Company Overview
ST. ANN CENTER FOR INTERGENERATIONAL CARE, INC.
Mission: St. Ann Center provides Franciscan-inspired, intergenerational, community-based health and educational services for children, adults, the elderly and those with disabilities and serves as a resource to their caregivers. The Center, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, reflects Franciscan values in meeting the spiritual, psychological, social, and physical needs of all who participate regardless of faith, culture or ability to pay.

Goals: Our goal is to provide a cost-effective non-institutional alternative to long-term care for adults by offering day services in a compassionate home-like setting. Adults of all ages and abilities discover a sense of purpose in sharing their wisdom, skills and experience with the youngsters in our intergenerational center, and are motivated to engage in daily activities by the children’s energy. The children, in turn, learn to value and respect people who are different from them, and benefit from the positive one-on-one attention from nurturing, caring adults.

History: Since 1983, St. Ann Center has grown from serving four adult clients in the basement of St. Francis Convent to serving over 823 adults and children per day in two campuses. St. Ann Center’s Stein Campus opened in 1999 on Milwaukee’s south side, becoming the only shared-site intergenerational facility of its kind in the nation. St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus opened in September 2015 to serve the needs of north side families. The new campus also includes a community medical clinic and a unique dental clinic that serves people with physical or cognitive disabilities that prevent them from being treated in traditional clinics. The intergenerational environment at St. Ann Center has become a world-renowned model that nurtures diversity, strengthens and uplifts every generation, and enables people of all ages and abilities to live dignified, meaningful, and engaged lives.

Programs: St. Ann Center currently serves a daily average of 455 adults and 368 preschool children. Our adult day services include outpatient rehabilitation (occupational, physical, speech and restorative therapies), Alzheimer’s and dementia care, skilled nursing care, whirlpool baths, an aquatics program in our warm-water pool, hair and nail care, massage, art and music therapy, recreation—including intergenerational activities, counseling, nutritious meals and snacks and overnight respite care. In addition to our pre-school program, we have 34 school-age children in our before-and-after-school program and 41 youths (ages 11 to 15) in our Buddy Program, providing mentoring and service opportunities. Our Bucyrus Campus offers both Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Last summer, 51 children were enrolled in our summer camp program.

Community Support: St. Ann Center has a donor list of almost 9,000 people. In 2016, we had a dedicated group of 776 volunteers who contributed 42,528 hours of service to St. Ann Center, which is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Their work includes socializing with adult clients and feeding them, assisting childcare teachers, helping with activities and field trips, organizing and participating in special events, working in the cafe, gardening, baking, helping with raffles and clerical work, and more. St. Ann Center-Bucyrus Campus is also invested in building the north side community from within by providing jobs, hosting business incubators and supporting local and minority businesses and culture.

Awards: Over the past year, St. Ann Center has been honored to receive a number of awards. They include: the 2016 MANDI (Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development) State Farm Building Blocks Award, the Milwaukee Business Journal Real Estate Awards-Most Creative Deal (for our new Bucyrus Campus), the Journal Sentinel Top Choice Awards-Best of Greater Milwaukee Childcare, BizTimes Media Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year and the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Diversity and Inclusion Award.
