The UW School of Medicine and Public Health is recognized as an international, national and statewide leader in education, research and service. More than a century since our founding as the University of Wisconsin Medical School, we have transformed into the nation's first School of Medicine and Public Health, as we integrate the principles and power of traditional medical and public health approaches in all of our missions.

This revolutionary synthesis seeks to develop new approaches for preventing, as well as diagnosing and treating illness, with a simultaneous focus on both individuals and populations.

Our Institute for Clinical and Translational Research creates vital connections between basic discovery and clinical/translational research, and represents a partnership between the School of Medicine and Public Health, other UW-Madison schools (e.g., the College of Engineering, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy and the School Veterinary Medicine) and the Marshfield Clinic.

The Wisconsin Partnership Program, created through a generous endowment when Blue Cross and Blue Shield United of Wisconsin converted to a for-profit organization, seeks to improve the health of the public and reduce disparities by supporting innovative programs in research, education and community partnerships.
