Hunger Task Force believes that every person has a right to adequate food obtained with dignity. Hunger Task Force works to prevent hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger free community tomorrow. We attack the issue of Hunger on two fronts: Advocacy and Food Banking. Advocacy: We serve those who cannot speak up for themselves by lobbying legislators and administrators to create, support, and maintain programs that ensure people have enough food to feed themselves and their families. The Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program, FoodShare, and the School Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper Programs are examples of programs we have worked to establish and build. You can help. Click here to find out how. Food Banking: We distribute food to our network of food banks, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens, and we do it free of charge. We do not charge membership, service or delivery fees. These community programs are run by passionate, caring staff members and volunteers on a bare-bone budget. Charging fees would undermine the mission. If we profited from our work or were selling food, we could never fully commit ourselves to ending hunger.

We've been a voice for the hungry, promoting socially sound policies that could end hunger in our community. We were founded in 1974 by a group of concerned parents worried about children going to school hungry. Then, in 1977, we responded to community need by opening a food bank to distribute free food to local charities that feed the hungry. Hunger Task Force depends upon community support to operate. More than 4,000 people volunteer each year, putting their time and talent to work across all areas of the agency. Because we charge no fees and receive no United Way funding, most of our budget is raised through ongoing solicitations from foundations, corporations, labor unions and individuals. Hunger Task Force is Wisconsin’s premier anti-hunger organization that has been feeding Milwaukee since 1974. Hunger Task Force is a 501 (C) (3) organization.

Hunger Task Force strives to achieve this mission through the goals set forth in our strategic plan which defines and directs our work:

1.To provide food to people in need through direct service food programs.

2.To lead local and state efforts to achieve food security by researching nutrition programs / laws, educating the community, organizing coalitions and influencing public policy.

3.To reduce childhood hunger in Milwaukee through increased participation in school meals, summer meals and other child nutrition programs.

4.To develop the human, financial and technical resources necessary to support and promote our mission and programs.
