Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide exceptional veterinary care for your pet as if she or he were our own. Our staff promises to educate and work with you to come up with a treatment plan that best suits you and your pet. From the second you walk in the door to the very end of your visit, it is our goal that you know your pet received the best of care.

Our History

New Berlin Animal Hospital was established in 1972 and has been an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1978. Only 17% of the veterinary practices in North America (including Canada) are members of this organization. AAHA is a volunteer membership that holds its members to extremely high medical standards that exceed the normal standards of care in veterinary medicine. As a member, our hospital is inspected on a routine basis and evaluated on over 900 items of patient care. We are committed to provide excellence in veterinary medicine, dentistry and surgery. Our membership in AAHA is our way of showing you that we treat your pet as if he or she were our own. To learn more about AAHA, please visit their website at  www.healthypet.com

Medicine

The most important part of a preventive medicine program for your pet is the physical exam. Since our pets age about a year every 2 to 3 months for dogs and cats, even faster for small caged pets, a lot of health changes can occur in a very short period of time. Having your pet examined at least once a year can help to detect early medical conditions that may become more significant later in your pet’s life. Since many diseases can present with the same clinical signs but have different treatment options or may not be obvious to the owner, the physical exam is the starting point when evaluating a patient.

Vaccines

The best way to prevent an infectious disease is to prevent exposure; however, this is not realistic. Our pets live in an environment that causes them to be exposed to infectious diseases on a daily basis. Vaccines provide the next best line of defense against preventable infectious diseases. We follow the vaccination guidelines developed by the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. We work with you on tailoring a vaccination program for your pet based on you and your pet’s lifestyle.

Diagnostics

Because our pets cannot always tell us what is wrong, we have to rely on other diagnostic tests to help determine what may be the cause of a pet to not feel well. Our hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic capabilities including fecal analysis, blood work, radiographs (x-rays), digital dental x-rays, endoscopy, ECG, glaucoma testing, and visiting specialists for ultrasounds & echocardiograms. We further have the ability to refer patients for more specialized procedures including CT and MRI scans.

Dentistry

A recent study performed by the American Animal Hospital Association shows that severe dental disease can shorten a pet’s life by as much as five (5) years! Given this significant health risk, we offer a wide range of dental services including cleaning teeth, digital dental x-rays and oral surgery, all performed using the state of the art anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring equipment. Dental disease has a significant impact on the overall health and quality of life for your pet – if your pet as bad breath, discolored teeth or abnormal looking gums, please give our office a call so that one of our doctors can evaluate your pets teeth.

Surgery

Our hospital offers a wide range of surgical services for your pet besides spays and neuters. We have a dedicated surgical suite and use state of the art anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring equipment. We also have Certified Veterinary Technicians that stay with your pet throughout the surgical procedure to ensure that your pet is monitored well under anesthesia and kept warm and comfortable. Further, we are committed to providing pain medication before and after surgery.

Hospitalization

When necessary, we have the ability to hospitalize patients for treatment. For those pets that may be critical, we also have three veterinary referral centers at our disposal if your pet needs intensive 24 hour care.

Pharmacy

We have a full line of prescription medications and diets at your disposal when your pet needs medication.
