Position Summary
Research Technologist II
Purpose
Carry out bench work for sponsored research projects under supervision of the laboratory director. This includes the design and execution of in vitro and in vivo studies and the compilation and analysis of data generated.
Primary Functions
- Carry out routine laboratory work and perform experiments for ongoing research projects.
- Monitor inventory and order lab supplies.
- Assist in managing the laboratory budget. Keep accurate records of expenditures and interact with vendors as needed.
- Assist in the generation of preliminary data for research grant applications.
- Manage colony of inbred and transgenic laboratory mice.
- Includes pedigree maintenance.
- Includes genotyping of genetically engineered “knock out” and “knock in” mice.
- Includes performance of tumor induction studies
- Prepare cell culture media and maintain viable cells in vitro using cell culture techniques.
- Participate in standing meetings with the laboratory director/principal investigator and other research staff.
- Independently oversee daily operations in case the laboratory director is absent.
- Help with the development and validation of research protocols.
- Keep accurate records of ongoing work and clearly communicate experimental results.
- Help to evaluate and interpret experimental data. Perform quality control assays.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance of laboratory instruments.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
Preferred Schedule:
Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Required Experience: 1 year
Preferred Education: Master’s degree
Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of experience
