Keep Moving!

A couple of years ago, I participated in a women’s entrepreneurial workshop. It was a fabulous environment where women bounced ideas off each other regarding the individual businesses we were trying to launch.

I learned so much from this group of ladies...but one particular lesson remains embedded in my mind. KEEP MOVING! The group’s facilitator would begin our weekly meetings by going around the room, asking each person what they had done the previous week to “move” their business idea forward. She reminded us that any movement was good movement. (Excellent advice for a perfectionist like me! Don’t worry about doing it perfectly, just get it done!) She used to say that as long as movement occurred, we were one step closer to achieving the dream of launching our business.

Well, this same logic can be applied to searching for a job. Whether it’s going to lunch with a group of friends and telling them what type of job you’re looking for, or spending a good 45 minutes everyday perusing the job boards, as long as you “keep moving”, finding that dream job is really only steps away.

We all know the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. The same holds true for finding a job. If you focus at minimum on performing one task a day in your job search, whether its writing your resume, rehearsing interview questions, attending a networking event, etc...you’re batting a thousand! It’s not about how quickly you get to where you’re going...it’s about staying the course.

The race does not always go to the fastest or the strongest, but instead goes to the person who thinks he can and doesn’t quit. Translation of doesn’t quit = KEEPS MOVING!
